Otoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to address protruding ears; also called a "lop ear" or "cup ear" deformity. This surgery can be carried out on children, adolescents or adults. Children may have the procedure done before entering school so as to avoid teasing by their peers.
The technical aspect of this surgery involves an incision on the posterior surface of the ear, with re-shaping of the cartilage utilizing permanent sutures. The procedure can be carried out in our office-based surgical suite, usually under intravenous anesthesia. |
