Scar Revision
The treatment of scars is one of the most common, and yet challenging, procedures performed on the skin. A surgical scar revision is ideally delayed for at least six months to one year after the original injury to allow for full maturation of the scar tissue. During this time, various non-surgical treatments may help soften or shrink a scar such as topical vitamin E oil or cream, topical silicone gel or dressing, or steroids applied topically or injected directly within a scar. Once surgery is deemed appropriate, any procedure is designed to minimize scar tissue to the extent possible.
